Manchester United suffer shocking defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford
Manchester United suffered a shocking defeat at home in the Premier League as Joachim Andersen’s superb strike gave Crystal Palace an impressive victory at Old Trafford.
Manchester United and Crystal Palace met for the second time in five days on Saturday, after United won 3-0 in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
However, Palace rested a number of first-team players for the first game, and they were a much tougher opponent on Saturday.
Crystal Palace took the lead in the first half through Joachim Andersen, who scored a superb volley after a free kick.
Manchester United dominated possession and had a number of chances to equalize, but they were unable to beat Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, who made a number of excellent saves.
Crystal Palace’s victory moved them above Manchester United in the Premier League table. It was United’s fourth defeat in seven league games, and their worst start to a season in 34 years.
Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone made two crucial saves in the second half to keep Manchester United out and preserve his team’s lead. He first pushed over a dipping effort from Bruno Fernandes, and then kept out a bullet header from Hojlund.
